The Positions You Can Run For

We’re looking for individuals to come forward and run TLSU for another year. There are 15 positions to run for so that every student at TL is represented and has a voice as best as possible. The winning candidates will form part of the TLSU Executive Committee and hold their positions from August 1st to July 31st 2023.So let’s get straight into the details!

➡️ The President (not open in the extended period)

There’s one full time, paid position – the President. The salary for the year is around £20,000. This is a crucial role that brings all of TLSU and the team together. If you’re looking to make a difference for a year, you have some great ideas, love a party or organising stuff (or preferably both!) and want to get paid at the same time – this is the position for you.

➡️ Vice-Presidents & Officers

There are also four Vice-Presidents and ten Officers who make up the ‘Academic’ and ‘Student Experience’ teams. Of course everyone can pitch in and come up with great ideas, but it’s good to have an area to focus on that’s all yours. Those areas are as follows:

The Academic team has two Vice Presidents – of Dance and Music. You could think of yourselves as head student reps, or student course leaders. It’s the VPs job to bring together the views of all the students and try and make our education better. Because, let’s be honest, TL don’t always get it right and how can they improve without our feedback?!

Reporting to the academic VPs are the:

  • Musical Theatre Officer (not open in the extended period)
  • UG Dance Officer
  • PG Dance Officer
  • UG Music Officer, and
  • PG Music Officer

The Student Experience team also has two Vice Presidents – of Events, and of Welfare. Party planning will be important for you, but so will sitting on a couch having coffee and talking about problems, signposting students-in-need to help and much more. You’ll be leading a team of officers that represent the amazing diversity of TL students.

Those positions, reporting to the Student Experience VPs are:

  • Disabled Students Officer
  • Diversity Officer
  • International Officer
  • LGBTQ+ Officer, and
  • Societies Officer

All officer positions are critical to the smooth operation of the SU, and perfect for someone that feels like they’re not able to commit as much time and effort as a VP role but still want to make a difference. You’ll liaise with your fellow students to get feedback on how everything is going and report back to the rest of the TLSU. Together, you’ll make a plan to run events, parties, classes and anything you can think of.

Here is a recap of all the positions up for election:

➡️ The President (not open in the extended period)
• President of TLSU (full-time & paid a salary of approx. £20,000 for the year)

➡️ Academic Team
• Vice President of Dance
• Vice President of Music (not open in the extended period)
• Musical Theater Officer (not open in the extended period)

➡️ Student Experience Team
• Vice President of Events
• Vice President of Welfare
• Disabled Students’ Officer
• Diversity Officer
• International Officer

Vice-Presidents and Officers are voluntary positions but are eligible for a performance-based honorarium every term. This is £350 for VPs and £100 for Officers each term.
