Governance Changes, and Trustee recruitment

How are we changing

Trinity Laban Students’ Union has decided to change. We will be doing this in two ways:

  1. To “incorporate”- at the moment the Executive Committee form a team that have responsibility for the SU, but do not have financial or legal protection if the previous years team made a poor decision. Incorporation means forming an organisation that instead had Directors or Trustees where liability is somewhat limited.
  2. The second thing the Students’ Union is looking at is to become a charity. Though there are some benefits, the main reason to do this is to make sure that we are always working for the public good by meeting the needs of our members.

What are our next steps?

We are going to start recruiting trustees, and if they follow the previous recommendation, they will register a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (a CIO).

To do this, it is proposed that we appoint 4 external Trustees, who will join the SU President (Amadea) and 3 student trustees.

If you know someone who is not a student, and have the below skills, please share the pack on this page. If you are are going to be a student next year, and want to be a Student Trustee, please contact us at tlsu@trinitylaban.ac.uk
